![]() ![]() At the time Epiphone were some of the top quality guitars. Stupid comment from the GC rep but not surprising. I have read that those Casinos made in the 90s and early 2000s are the best aside from the genuine article 60s models, but are they actually high quality instruments? To put in perspective what I consider a high quality instrument, I have a 1995 MIJ Fender MG-69 Mustang and my dad has a 1973 Telecaster Custom and I consider them to be as close to perfect as guitars can be. I have the budget to buy a Gibson but all of Gibson's hollow bodies have humbuckers and not P90s so it seems the Casino is my only hollow bodied option. At Guitar Center when I asked aboht the quality of the Casino the salesman said "would John Lennon and George Harrison use a low quality guitar?" but the problem with that is 50-60 years ago Epiphone had just been bought by Gibson, had it's own factory in New York and was the world's foremost maker of jazz guitars while today it's Gibson's junior/budget brand. I am trying to choose between a solid bodied P90 guitar (Les Paul Special DC or SG Special) and a hollow P90 guitar, my heart really wants a hollow body but I am concerned about Epiphone quality. Afaik Epiphone is the Gibson equivalent of Squier. ![]()
